Asaad Bruno (AB) Benmiloud [b. 1994] is an interdisciplinary artist and designer currently based in Oakland, California. Specialized in visual art and slow-fashion design, his mixed-media practice articulates personal taste and ideology in depth and texture—using signature colors (white/grey/blue/green/brown/black), a style of lettering (curves on point), and iconic shapes (“camogüsto”) to create recognizable aesthetics embedded with symbolism.

AB is intrinsically inspired by his peers and avid in collaboration, instinctively cross-pollinating and weaving different elements of inspiration and meaning together in his craft. His process is as conceptual as it is hands-on, bringing visions into existence and giving materials more life with paint, thread, textile and more. In the lens of art, AB’s work explores converging themes of identity and belonging, studying nature and humanity adapting through time and space. From a fashion design standpoint, he believes that up-cycling, repairing, altering and further personalizing existing garments as unique statement pieces, brings regenerative and sustainable value to the world.

Shaped by an early 2000’s upbringing, AB is a living patchwork of global influences. Born in Berkeley, CA to first-generation Algerian immigrants, he moved to France with his family at age 11 where he spent formative teenage years. His creative path originally began with graffiti, evolving through formal studies in fashion design and maturing with professional work such as tailoring for LEVI’S, collaborating with NEIGHBORHOOD SPORTS CLUB and creative consulting for OAKLAND ROOTS. He eventually showed work and activated space at SFMOMA in collaboration friend and mentor SKO HABIBI.

Over time, AB has been developing AH-LEZ, apparel rooted in street-art, and GÜSTO a tailoring service shop —two distinct yet complementary brands that serve as outlets for his personal art and design direction. He also leads a collective initiative called SOUVENIR—a platform for remembrance through collaboration, producing tangible items and experiences. Paired with his artistic pursuits, AB is also a youth mentor, educator, and community builder, extending his impact beyond the creative realm.
